If you are unsure about what exactly to say when writing to your MP, Stonewall have provided some guidance. They have suggested seven ways to get your MP's attention, which we have listed below:

  • Don't be party political
  • Find common ground
  • Be personal
  • It is more than just writing a letter or sending an email
  • Don't stop if you get no answer
  • Support each other
  • Remember MP's are people too

petitions

This petition calls for a ban on so-called ‘conversion therapy’, this is a harmful pseudo-medical practice promoted by some religious groups. It refers to a range of practices which aim to convert LGBTQ+ people to their ‘correct’ gender or sexual orientation.

All reputable health and psychological organisations consider the practice to be ineffective, unethical and harmful. The ‘therapy’ is usually promoted by religious organisations. ‘Conversion therapy’ does not include legitimate therapeutic options to assist people struggling with their gender identity or sexual orientation to live more comfortably.
